transcosmos introduces virtual technology to its BPO infrastructure
Promoting energy-saving while preventing information leaks and providing BCP support
July 25, 2011
transcosmos inc.
transcosmos inc. (Headquarters: Shibuya Ward, Tokyo; President and COO: Masataka Okuda; Securities code: 9715; hereafter, transcosmos) has introduced VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) to the offshore Japanese call-center and BPO services provided by its subsidiary, transcosmos (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, Bangkok Center). The introduction of this virtual technology will promote energy-saving while preventing information leaks and providing BCP support.
By using VDI, companies can conduct business using a virtual environment on a physical server to run multiple operating systems (virtual PCs) and applications (which run on the virtual PCs), with only the screen image being transferred to thin-client computer terminals or other type client PCs. This ensures that information is kept highly secure since business data cannot be stored on client PCs and only devices with access permission. VCI can also help with BCP (Business Continuity Planning) since the system is installed in data centers located in secure, highly durable environments, and systems can be quickly restored even if a client PC experiences problems during a disaster since applications run on the server’s operating system.
transcosmos is building a VDI center and providing services over a Global IP-VPN that already links client corporate servers with its Bangkok Center (operation center) and Okinawa IDC (data center). Using VDI in this case has lowered the construction cost of the Japanese-Thai network while enabling transcosmos to provide services at a lower rate than if it had used a conventional dedicated line. Infrastructure, maintenance, and operating costs, including installation costs, were reduced by over 30%.

transcosmos is intent on making further improvements based on the success of its Okinawa IDC-driven cloud service. The use of thin-client computer terminals is also expected to provide benefits with respect to power consumption, which has become an important concern in Japan. transcosmos will also continue to improve security and BCP by making its service even safer and more reliable.
